**How did we choose these as the top 10?

 

First, we compiled the top 10-20 on 14 different web host rating sites. Then we extensively researched each one on different web forums and discussion groups. I confess, we took into consideration our personal experiences with several of the candidates, thus eliminating a few, and including a few.

 

Price/month

First price listed is cheapest available/second price is quoted on the 12 month plan and divided by 12. ( Longer signup = more savings.) One & One is an exception due to ongoing promotions.(see site).

 

Domains

If a domain is included and the word “life’” is after it, that means you have that domain free for the life of your account with that company

***Yahoo’s domain price is tricky. Can be as high as $30/year. Talk to them before you sign.

 

 

Site Builders- we have personally tried every site builder listed, except for Host Gator’s, Plesk, which is fairly new (they used to have Site Builder).  Although tastes vary, we rate the site builders according to ease of use, program speed, and professional appearance of templates:

 

Best Site Builder:

WYSIWYG Pro - 5 Star. Easy to learn, use and looks great! One & One’s site builder is a close second.

 

Worst Site Builder:

CM4all - Confusing interface, out dated templates, worthless.

 

Customer Service with an * means HSE or a good friend/collegue has had extensive personal experience with their CS. Those without an * were rated according to multiple web forums and hosting rating sites. Yes, we called them all to rate the wait ...and attitude :)

 

Online Reputation

After all the time we spent searching and reading about each of these companies, you see a definite reputation emerge for each company. Granted, the larger the company, the more likely there will be disgruntled customers. It just happens. However, the likelihood of positive reviews should increase proportionately, or they lost points.

 

Please note: If you don’t go with one of our rated companies, we strongly urge you to do your own research, there are obvious companies you will want to avoid. We refrained from listing them here in the interest of “good will to all men”.
